Default 48 coil/ignition relocation kit question

I've been wanting to do some mods that don't break the bank. So far I've got the pipes, intake and X14iEDs on the way.

Is the relocation kit hard to install and where does everyone get theirs from? Are new wires needed as well? I guess I can search the 48 picture thread but does anyone have pics of theirs on hand?

thanks

I also used the DK Customs kit to move my coil and ignition. Pretty simple and it comes with all you need.

Hey Gary,

Coil/key relocation is easy...20-30 minutes. Kit comes with step-by-step instructions.

You can re-use the spark plug wires you have, but you will want to cut them down to make them fit the new location better. OR, we have kits that come with new plug wires (Red or Black).

You also have a choice on where to relocate the ignition...either up near the tank with the relocated coil, or use the Flex-Six ignition relocation which puts it down between the rear jug and the battery cover.

There are quite a few pics on our website and then even more at http://www.facebook.com/DKCustom

Hey Kevin,

From your website it seems you don't have coil/ignition relocation kits for pre-2004 Sportsters...like 2002, is that correct?

Voony,

That is correct. We have one style for 2004-2006, and another for 2007-2011. This is because HD used different coils for those models.

Pre 2004 is yet another style coil, but more importantly, where we mount the coil relocation bracket, on the pre 2004 models the factory uses that spot for the center engine mount bracket.

Thanks for checking!

Does having the coil/ignition that close to the engine cause issues?

Will this kit be everything I need?

There are no issues with the coil/ignition in the relocated position. The coil is actually cooler there than in the stock position.

Yes, that kit will relocate the coil and ignition as shown in the picture at the link, and it includes SE Plug wires that fit the relocated position of the coil.
