I just got my 1988 883 back from the "mechanic". I brought it in to fix a problem with the shifting. Shifts fine at times but then all of a sudden doesn't like to shift into third. "Mechanic" said it was the clutch. So he adjusted it. I still have the same problem and mechanic swears its fixed. Though he rode it after he fixed it for about three minutes. Any ideas? I love my bike and want to depend on the shifting. But I don't want to get taken again by someone who keeps telling me "Its fine" when I know it isn't. I still ride anyway. Sure makes things interesting.
Hi Sharon from the UK. Sounds like you need a different mechanic and a better one. Ask around to see if there is another indy nearby. And best of luck.
clutch has nothing to do with shifting..
all it does is let the tension off the engaged gear.
you can do the same with the throttle..
clutchless shifting is used by a lot of people that understand the mechanics of the transmission.
That being said ...get another mechanic to look at it
