Default need some serious help

So I got my forward extension kit in the mail yesterday and was installing it tonight. I encountered a big problem.

The brake linage has the two bolts, one at either end. The instructions told me to torque them down to 120-180 ft lbs. Well, the back bolt snapped off when it was screwed into which I will call the "brake linkage arm" (its a black powder coated arm that turns a right angle and connects the linkage to the brake lines)

Well now I need to A) get a new linkage arm, but B) how do I get part of a broken bolt out of the threaded hole? I tried to pull the brake linkage arm out of its assembly, but the pin hits the frame when pushing it up, and I didn't have the proper size spider bit to remove the assembly from the frame.

I am going to stop by the shop tomorrow and see if they sell that arm I am talking about, but my guess is they wont sell me that part specifically, and I will need the whole assembly ($$$$$$). How the F do I get a broken off bolt out of the arm? any ideas?

I am going to put this in the DIY forum too but this one gets a lot more traffic.

I would have to say that you probably should have used inch pound not foot pounds

What they said.. Read a little more carefully. Some steps say to use foot pounds and other give inch pounds.. sucks to hear man.. If I remember correctly the screw you cracked off was suppose to have locktite on it.. Hopefully you can get that drilled out ok..

120 ft lbs? Thats the torque spec for something like in the range of... a 9/16 - 5/8 bolt or bigger. Can't remember off the top of my head, but those specs are also varied by oiled or dry torque.

120 inch pounds would be for something like... a 5/16 maybe? I used to know these by memory.

Just checked service manual, blue loctite and 120-180 inch pounds.I would stay in the lower value of those settings myself.

Yea this kit is a POS. Instructions just say lbs actually and no mention of loctite anywhere on them. That made me a little suspect before I even started. I didnt have any on me so I didnt use any figuring I could put it on each bolt later. Good thing I didnt have any anyways.

You guys think Ill be able to drill it out? I am afraid I will damage the threads.

O, and another Q. I hammerd the broken ball joint bolt out of the linkage arm. I thought about doing the same to the stock one and replacing the bolt peice into the arm from my kit. Althought I think that will cause too much damage to the little plastic bushing to make a safe, reliable brake lever. Thoughts?

And if someone would be kind enough to note which bolts the red and blue loctite go on I would be very grateful. Thanks.

Use a drill bit half the thickness/size of the broken bolt. Drill the center of the bolt about 1/2 inch, then use an easy out.

Use blue locktite only.....
