This just happened last night. Had to ride almost an hour home with it stuck on. My front brake lever isn't hanging and appears to be depressing the the switch completely. I haven't altered anything on the handlebars since I installed my apes over a year ago. Haven't checked the rear switch, actually haven't located it yet. Are these switches prone to failure out of nowhere like this?
I would try putting something between you front lever and the switch to see if it fixes the issue. The switch should be held in with the lever and released when you pull it in thus turning the brake light on. If the end of the switch broke off it would allow it to travel out even while the lever is not applied. Hope this helps. You'll need a new switch if this is the case.
I played with my handle bars and that replacement swith is short wired in
a bithc to work on ... I just fixed the plunger by drilling a slightly undersized whole and putting in ad 2-56 screw ... and then used a
old ear bug rubber as the replacement gasket ... been working for over a year now with no issues ... good luck ... you will nice small fingers to work in the too ... my gorrilla paws were no advantage
this happened to my iron the front break switch just randomly broke ... I figured that when you engaged the hand brake it triggered the break light, however when the break lever is at rest it is triggering the switch and when u pull the break and conneection between the lever and the switch seperates which makes the light go on. When the switch breaks tho there is never a connection therefore the light always stays on ... my guess is that is the problem
Crazy I just had the SAME ISSUE on my 2007 Heritage. Frustrated to say the least. The switch located on the brake side frame rail has two wires one "red and yellow" one "red and white" I took the red and yellow off the connector and the dual element went off and I was able to use the hand brake and the 2nd element "lit-up" and won't light with the foot brake. Now... How hard is it to change out?
