Default Customizing costs vs future resail value

I'm feeling kinda stupid right now for all the cash I spent on mods.. expensive wheels, mid glide trees, paint work... that doesn't seem to mean anything if you decide to sell.

I feel like I had an addiction.... anyone else feel some remorse after the spending orgy was over?

bluebook price is all most bikes are worth..unlikely to find anyone willing to pay extra for what someone else thinks looks cool on a bike. best to keep original parts and put them back on when trying to sell.
it is always a good idea to ride a new bike for several months before starting the add-ons...make sure this is a bike you are really planning on keeping for several years.

you customize for yourself, not for the next owner. If you are putting on parts expecting anything in return, you are sadly mistaken. They only way you will get a return on any parts is if you find a buyer who thinks it is the perfect bike with everything he wanted on it and nothing he didnt

Yeah you will never see your mod money back, so you just have to do it, because you love it-not to recoupe your money.

I bought my bike in February and don't want to even think about selling it at this point, let alone for how much.

I may never sell it. Everything I added was something I wanted, not something I did for the next owner (if any).

I've learned to hedge my bets on my projects/toys over the years. I save every single stock part, nut, bolt, and screw. That way if/when I sell I can at least return it to stock and have a forum/craigslist sale.

I just went through this with an '07 Subaru and the way I choose to look at it is that I lost 9k less than I would have just selling the car. I still gave up an awful amount of $ and time. Unless you are restoring/rodding a collectible classic, you are in a specialty niche market.

I have a neighbor that bought an 09 Street Glide (~$20000) and put on $23000 worth of accessories. Blue book or NADA wholesale trade in probably less than $15000. If you can afford it, go for it, but don't whine when your bike's value is not what you think.

i'm not really whining... i had a change of circustance, moving from the carolinas to newport rhode island. the roads here suck major big time, the traffic is horrendous, and if was still down in the south, i'd be happy with my bike mods and not look back. my sportie sits in the garage now while i ride my scooter around town and even on the back roads. it's more fun, takes the bumps better. i'm just feeling stupid for spending moola that doesn't seem to add to the value of my bike, and wondered if i was the only one having some rergrets over being impulsive...
