Default what tire do you run

It is time for a new rear tire as mine is getting bald, and since it is better to give than to receive, I am going to give myself a new rear tire for Christmas.

What tire do you run, stock or otherwise, and what do you think about it. How does it handle rain, two up, how does it wear etc. All reviews will be helpful. Thank you all.

I am thinking about the Dunlup 401, 404, or the qualifier.

Any suggestions????

Metzler 880. Way better tire IMO.

Take a look around and do a search on tires here. You will see alot of similar questions.

I ride year round, and use the stock Harley Dunlops on all my bikes (have for years).

Don't have any problems on wet or dry roads, and tread life is at least 10,000 miles.

You can find them just about anywhere, and $175 for both the front and rear isn't very expensive.

I'm perfectly happy with the Dunlops and don't see any need or reason to go with something else.

The Metzler 880's will give you more road life but the stock Dunlops are a little "stickier" (softer compound). I'll stay with the stock tires. They've been great in the twisties and good in the rain.

Harley recommends Dunlop tires for best performance. I have also read here a few pages back that if you change brands you should change both tires. Someone will chime in on these ideas as soon asa they read this post.

I've been running Shinko SR712's on my Sportster for the last 10 years or so. The wear well and handle great in the rain. I can get both tires for right around 100 bucks.

I figuare the MoCo is smarter about these things than I am. I stick with the stock Dunlops and have no problems at all.

Avons on the rear of my bike, and will soon be putting one on the front as well.

Harley recommends Dunlops for several manufactures reasons. Harley has designed their wheels to interlock with Dunlop's beading surface which means in the event of a flat at speed the tire will not seperate from the bead. Although other tires bead up, they do no have this beadlock. Makes the tire safer. The reason it is recommended to change both at once if switching is for rain seperation and compund. You want your tires to properly push water away from you contact patch area at the same rate and while overtaking corners you would like the tire to react the same in the front as the rear. It also affects braking with two different tread compounds.
