Default Riser bolts... check 'em.

Hopped on the bike this morning for my commute to work and noticed a little play in the bars. Upon further investigation, both of my riser bolts were barely finger tight. Instant pucker thinking about what could have gone wrong. I'm thinking I need to loctite those things.

Its not hard to get one's self into trouble with the red locktite. While I agree that those bolts are big enough that you can use the red (because you can put a large socket wrench on them)....I normally use the blue first, and only step up to the red if the blue won't hold....

Food for thought.

Directions on my fat mini's call for red loctite. My indy put them on with lock washers & the loosened up. I pulled the lock washers & put on the red. That was 2 years ago. They are on for good

Well maybe the red is the right way to go then, I just know I've used to the red before and then been shocked at how much torque I had to apply to get a bolt loose.

Another thing to keep in mind... Loctite has a shelf life and it is not terribly long. So, if you've got some Loctite in the garage that you've had for awhile, check the date on it.

Red is really only for things you want permanently joined. It requires heat and lots of force to remove if correctly applied.

Blue will suffice for just about anything on the handlebars. It's not a heat factor, and they don't really undergo that much stress so it should be ok.
