bad battery?

bad battery?
Went to ride two days ago and battery was dead. I put a trickle chargger on it over night. Next day nothing so I put in a new battery and it fired right up. We out tonight to ride and again dead battery. What would kill it over night?

Next time you get it started test the voltage output by putting a ohms meter to the battery and post the reading in volts. Sounds to me like your stator isn't charging the battery after start up so you are running your battery down in power to keep the bike running. Just by chance though you didn't leave the ignition on or anything right?

+1 - You need to put a VOLT meter across the battery with the bike running at a fast (~1500 rpm) idle. Anything less than 13.8 Volts, and you probably have a bad stator and/or regulator.
Harley's stators on the Sporty suck. Around 20 - 25K miles seems to be their life expectancy.

Dude, yer just leaving it on accessory on the ignition. Make sure you leave it in the off position. There are specific tests that will tell you if it's your Stator or Voltage regulator. If you have a multi-meter and a shop manual you probably wouldn't be asking this stuff. Check your key postion, if it still drains...take it to the shop.
stator is ur alternator. It charges ur battery while u are riding. Easy to see if its ur stator or not.
