Default Mickey Mouse SH*t!

I'm trying to put back on certain accessories that the PO hacked off my 97 sportster 883, starting with the speedometer, i thought it would be an easy thing, but i find myself short one red wire, and need a little help figuring this out.

Do you have a manual? Did you take that off yourself? I'm guessing no, though in my world a PO is a Parole Officer, though I highly doubt that's what you mean.....at least I hope not!

If I were you, I'd take each individual wire, figure out what it is supposed to run and label it. Even just a piece of tape with a number on the wire, and a master list on a piece of paper. Take your time and make sense of each wire. Process of elimination, you'll know whether or not you are missing a wire. When they're all identified it should be a lot easier to hook it back up.

No Parole Officer for me. lol

but for the speedo, 5/6 of the wires match up to what i have on the bike, and i'm sure some of the other wires are for the dummy lights, and tach which have also been hacked off, but i'm not even sure i have the right speedo for the bike, i got a big bin of parts when i bought it, and the speedo tach and dummy lights just happened to be in there,

It sounds like the first thing to do is make sure that's the right speedo then go from there....

upon review of the picture of your part #, it appears to be the right one.....it's that last picture of all the wires that really boggles me......are you playing shortest straw or something? It's not so much the speedo wires to identify as the right ones on the motorcycle that you need to figure out......is that the mess you're holding in the last picture?

Buy a manual or go here http://www.planete-biker.com/wiring_diagrams_01.php
and check out the 97 model link there is a wiring diagram you may be able to figure out that mess of wires.

Yep thats the mess, that i was left to deal with, for some reason, i never buy anything that is fine as is, always a fixer upper.

but the I'm pretty sure i got everything lined up pretty much, except for that last red wire on the speedo, that i cant find on the bike.

Ok since I've been a pain if you like tomorrow afternoon I will grab my manual and try to help identify some of that mess. I can scan in relevant pages and send them to you. Let me know.
