Default New Owner 2005 Sportster 1200 Custom

New HD owner. I know absolutely next to nothing about them except for how to ride one. I'm going to have lots of questions, but I'll make sure to make separate post for each one.

I bought from owner that just moved so they can't locate the owner's manual. I'm buying one from local dealer and also a service manual.

My question is what common/specialty tools should I have to be able to work (regular maintenance and maybe some upgrades) on my new to me bike? (I have the regular guy garage tools, sockets and wrenches, screw drivers, hammers, drill, etc.).

Thanks in advance.

Allen keys and/or sockets, imperial for most, metric for brakes.

Torx drive bits, T-27 in particular.

A clutch spring compressor... you will eventually want to get rid of the useless spring plate in your clutch pack before it grenades and ruins your basket and hub.

1/2" drive torque wrench and an inch/lbs torque wrench (for the exhaust nuts: 120 inch/lbs or 10 ft/lbs)

jack stand would be nice but you can make a lever style lift with a piece of 4x8, a length of pipe, a flange and a few bolts

Oh, and BTW, welcome to the forums

Get a full set of Torx bits. Make sure it includes the T27 bit. Don't be afraid to ask questions here. I don't know how much time and money I have saved by asking something I am unsure of on here.

Enjoy your new ride.

Torx Bits and inch/lbs torque wrench. And maybe a jackstand.

Thanks for the info.

Here's a picture of my bike in the garage.
