Ok I've got 2009 nighster rode up the street . Got back on bike put key in turned hit run regular lights came on key oil eng. Made that noise eng light off ready to start hit start button .AND NOTHING NO CRANK NOTHING????pushed bike most way home tried again and it started???? WTF any ideas??
Maybe you accidently hit the on/off switch. I never use mine and sometimes it gets flipped and freaks me out for a minute. If it does it again, you are gonna have to start trouble shooting.

Could be the starter relay, swap it with the system relay, they are the same.
Same thing happened to my bike, swapped relays, it worked. Swapped back and it failed again later after working normal for a while. Bought two new relays.

Sounds like the battery in your key FOB may have had a bad connection. Sometimes you may need to remove the battery and clean it off, usually just removing it and putting it back in will do the trick, although it may be time for a new battery by now.
