Default Service Costs!!!

Hi all,

Just took my 2010 Iron in for 10,00km (6,250 mile) service. I was charged a total of $384. The breakdown is as follows:

2.5 hours labour for service = $137
1 hour labour for installing heat shield and new slip-ons = $55
3 litres of oil: $30
1 quart of lubricant: $12
Square ring: $2.5
O-Ring = $1.6
Oil filter = $15
Air filter gasket = $3
Spark plus (x2) = $13.6
Gasket = $5.5
Front brake pad kit = $65
Muffler clamps x2 = $22
Muffler gaskets = $11

So if you break it down the service cost is around $285 and the installation of the slip-ons and heat shield was $88

I know this is expensive but:

1. How expensive
2. How expensive compared to the US, given that I did this in Dubai

appreciate your thoughts (on the costs, not on the fact that I asked the dealer to install slip-ons and heat shield

All of the costs look in line with those in the Sacto area, except for the labor. Independent shops here charge $75/hr and the dealer gets $100/hr

Labour seems to be quite cheap here as its only $55 per hour - generally labour costs are cheaper in Dubai.

My wife's 11 Sporty 883 1k mile was €160 (~$215), but I brought my own oil; syn 3
My 09 Ultra 20k mile is €250 (~335), again with me brining the oil and filter
My HD Service center charges €90/hr here in Germany.

Other than the $12 qt of lube (probably for the bendover when paying... ) - looks like similar prices to HD shops in MidWest. I know it's probably a tad tougher to get parts & fluids in your location, but maybe start ordering service manual & lube online & this fills two purposes...(1) cheaper to self-service & (2) great way to learn your scoot. Just a thought. Enjoy!

The only charge in that list that makes me raise an eyebrow, is the $15 oil filter.

But the rest seems fair.

I missed that...that seems wrong to me unless his front pads were dragging.

Apparently so. When would the usual time to change pads be? Unfortunately I don't know enough yet to argue!
