Question Adding a tachometer?

Hi,
I have a 2002 sporty. It doesn't have a tach and I would like to add one. I would prefer a smaller size one that would mount to the bars.

My question is, would this be plug and play or would there have to be some modifications. And, if you have added a tach could you post pics and say which tach you have and where you got it?

Thanks!

My 2002 sportster has a tachometer, but it was on it when I got it and it is stock I am sure. There are some pretty cool aftermarket tachs too though.

I installed the factory tach, with the factory mount, on my '06 1200C and it was pretty much PNP. Had to remove the gas tank and the seat first than ran the wires down the steering column, down the frame back bone to the engine module under the seat and plug in the wiring harness.

There are some pretty cool looking ones out there and I would guess they would install pretty much the same way as the factory unit.

I added a tach to my 2003 883r. I had the dealer do it. It just seemed to many wires and stuff for me. They did it in 1 day

How much did it cost for the tach and the labor to install it?

the lack of tach was the very first thing i addressed on my build... and what i was told (several times) was that you dont want to be looking there anyway. i went with that advice and after riding the sporty for a few years i am totally a believer in the no tach on a bike idea. in fact, it probably shouldnt have a speedometer either. usually when i look down i am way over the speed limit- so why bother?!
i have a hot right hand and still have never hit the rev limiter... some day i will.
my advice, think twice before adding that tach. if you ever use it, you shouldnt (unless you are on the track)!

A tach will make it run faster.

Naturally, it improves the aerodynamics.

I've been looking into adding a tach as well. I know plenty of people have added generic Autometer tachs, but idk how
