Clutch Adjustment or ? ?
Now when I let the clutch lever out, it has to travel farther than in the past before engaging.
Maybe it is just me thinking there is a differance, but I would like to know if when they adjusted the primary chain this is also the way they adjust the clutch. The service order has no notations about adjusting the clutch.
I would like to know if I should take the bike back, and if so, what should I tell them.
I already had to take it back to have the throttle adjusted. There was a lot more free play than before. They were very nice about it, and quickly made the correction. Told me that the amount of free play is pretty much a choice of each rider.
Thanks,
Balloo
The "book" spec for this adjustment calls for the screw to be adjusted 1/4 turn out from its "snugly closed" position. This places the friction zone of the lever close to the grip, much like yours was to begin with. The downside of it being adjusted like this is that it requires more finger pull (lever travel) to reach the friction zone.
Many professional and experienced riders who spend a lot of time using the clutch in the friction zone, such as motorcycle cops or parade riders who do a lot of slow speed riding and maneuvers, will adjust the screw under the derby cover 1/2 to 3/4 of a turn out which moves the friction zone of the clutch lever out away from the grip, thus requiring less "finger pull" or lever travel to engage/disengage the clutch. It's less fatiguing on the hand/fingers and is where I prefer to run with mine adjusted.
It's simply rider preference.

if you had them adjust the cables , they probably took the slack(wear) out as you asked them to.
the clutch now engages farther out on the lever travel.

Thanks CHARLEY - - appreciate your detailed input. Think I will ride as is for a while and see how I like it. The problem I am having is when I start from a stop, I now tend to over rev. as I let the clutch out.
