This might be a stupid question for most on here. But I just recently bought a 06 883c. Neutral light doesn't work. I'm cheap and don't want to buy a sevice manual. So what are my options? I have had speedo off already and looks like led's in there. All other indicator lights work. Any help is always greatly appreciated.
Correct....a pain to get too as you have to remove the sprocket cover to even get to the final drive sprocket. To get to the sprocket cover and that area you probably have to remove the exhaust.

Semi-correct....all the OP has to do is pull in the clutch as a TSM looks for either neutral switch or clutch switch. Not sure how far the clutch switch goes back in years....I would say atleast till 04'. Not sure what year the OP's sporty is.
You can test the neutral indicator light as there is a plug under the frame for the wire that runs back to the neutral switch. When the bike is in neutral the switch goes to ground and lets the indicator light up. Look for the single tan wire and find the plug (usually around where the mid controls would be on the throttle side) and unplug it. Take a small piece of wire and put it in the connector that goes back towards the handlebars. Take the other end of the jumper wire and touch the frame or a good know ground. If the neutral light comes on....that means you either have an open condition from that point to the neutral switch or more likely you have a bad switch.
In the '05 Parts Manual, it's a bulb. Part # 68024-94. The bulbs push in/pull out. They're fragile. I don't think they went to LED in '06, but it's possible. Not to be insulting, but here's how to take it apart.
IIRC, on my '05, the tabs on the lense/bulb cover need to be pulled away from each other (as in not pinched together) to release it from the assembly. Here, those tabs are circled in red:
This is what it looks like after dis-assembly.
You'll see the bulbs in their sockets (not pictured). All of them are clear.
Ok that looks same as mine. I'll pull it and see. Might be just bulbs. But they are very small. And thanks all for the input. I'm now it's not the switch because it will start in neutral without the clutch. I just have to make sure it's in neutral.
