What a jackass I've been!
You can start laughing now ...
Just after my warranty expired the neutral switch started acting up, every time the engine got hot the switch failed to ground. I used to carry a piece of wire in my pocket to short plus on the starter to the solenoid. Then one day I tried to get that freakin' sprocket off and couldn't get the damn nut off, probably because of that red threadlocker they put on it. I felt seriously pissed of and I cut and grounded the wire at the TSM disabling the whole thing.
Now I realize every time I struggled to get it started I just should have pulled the clutch!!!
Well I pulled the bulbs and switched them. Still no indicator light and all bulbs tested fine. Tomorrow going to try starting it in gear and clutch engaged to see what happens. If it starts I'll be looking for some answers from previous owner.
When I had my 07, I had the same problem while it was under warranty. There was a trouble code stored in the computer, it turned out to be in the harness that serves the neutral light. Harness replaced, problem solved.
