Hey ya'll, I'm working on swapping a solid rear wheel onto my girlfriends 99 sportster, and I've come to find that Harley changed to sealed bearings in 2000. The 99 used Timken bearings and 3 spacers instead of the 2 spacers with the newer bearings. I'm hoping that one of ya'll can measure the spacers on a 2000 to 2003 and from swingarm side to side.
I have part numbers for the new bearings, but would like to check the sizes so I don't buy a spacer that is the same size as the ones I got.
FYI, if anyone wants to do a wheel swap like this, get a newer style rotor as the size of the hub lip is different also.
Also, has anyone upgraded the brake calipers on a 99 front or rear without spending allot of money? I was hoping the front from my fatboy would work, but its nowhere close. Need pads anyway, so its a good time to upgrade the calipers.
Thanks
Just put the wheel on, line it up by using the belt and measure for spacers. The mounting is different on the newer calipers. The rear slides on a tab on the swingarm and your current one wraps around it and the front caliper mounting depth is less on a newer fork.
