Default front wheel question

I am looking to go to a 21" laced front wheel on my 2000 1200 with a mag wheel. I have found an 09 front wheel in like new condition but I have been told that the front wheel bearing is different size. I have also been told that I can put the older part number bearing in the late model hub and it will work. I have also been told that this won't work. Does anyone know for sure? I can get this wheel at a really good price so I would like to know. Any help from some one who knows is appreciated!

You can put 3/4" bearings in the newer wheel but it is unlikely the current axle spacers you have will line properly once this is done as the width of the bearings is different. I am sure you can find spacers the right size but that is the part of this conversion that complicates matters.

having to change the spacers I can do but what about the brake rotor will it still be in the right location for the caliper or will I have to space it as well. It seems to me it should be right and the spacers on the right side would have to be changed. Am I thinking right?

If the rotor is off a little you can alwyas shim the caliper out. Assuming both of the Sportsters have a narrow glide front end you should be fine. However it depends on the bike the 09 wheel comes off.
