Default Header wrap

Ok, I went and bought some of the DEI titanium exhaust wrap. I didn't really want to go this route but since my pipes are so blued out this was my cheapest option. Going to tackle this tonight. Any good advice from the people that have already done this?

Get yourself a bucket of water, and some scissors.
soak the whole roll in the bucket
Cut in 3 foot strips to make your life easier
You dont need any clamps at the top, just over lap the wrap and make it very tight as you go down
You can use regular steel hose clamps from Autozone instead of the DEI clamps, they are hard to get very tight without the proper tool.

Dont be afraid to start over

GOOD LUCK

Thanks. I thought I read that you didn't need to soak the DEI wrap? Does it make it easier to soak vs putting it on dry?

To be honest with you i don't know. I have always soaked it, that's what the instructions say. Think of it as a wet rag, when it is wet it stretches a bit more so your are able to get it very tight. Then when it dries it does not loosen up.
Its fiberglass so its actually pretty brittle, i couldn't imagine putting it on dry.

Dont start at the top of the pipe, start at the rear of the pipe and work your way up... aerodynamics and if you twist the pipe as you roll it on you wont have to cut it till you reach the end.

Dude you better be joking with that Aerodynamics crap! lol

Only time that would matter would be if you are trying to break a land speed record.. and you wouldn't wrap your pipes if you were doing that.

I really dont know if there is a specific way, but i would think top to bottom would be better since each lip created from the over lap would be face the direction the air is flowing. Its not like it matters if wrapped up or down as long as it is a tight wrap..... OR DOES IT?! i really am curious now

Also just a heads up, my pipes still get pretty damn hot with the wrap... i park my bike outside and use a weather proof cover, when the inside touches the pipes its fine, but when the outside touched, it melted the plastic right off. I am actually thinking about doing a double wrap.

Aerodynamics he says lol
Here is mine from Top to Bottom

I just wrapped mine and didnt soak it and they wrapped up nice and tight.
Buy the Stainless Steel Hose clamps and use zip ties to get started.
Wear long sleeves too and some shitty jeans because you are gonna be covered in glass fibers.

All great advice, thanks. I will re-read the instructions before getting started and take my time. I just have to get it finished before Sunday so I can get out and ride. Shouldn't be an issue.

On your pipes...no... but as the wrap ages I have seen the edges become frayed faster when wrapped from the top down...no joke. Do a search on wrapping pipes and they almost all start at the end and go toward the head, just in case you decide to break any land speed records
