This falls into the catagory of "I did something while I didn't know what I was doing, now I want to know if it's the right thing" I'm new to the H-D world so when I got the Sportster I took my brother in laws advice and got the dealer to install Pipes, air cleaner and rejett the carb and run it on the dyno before I ever picked it up. I had picked a color and style out so they pulled on out of a crate for me with 0 miles so I never saw the bike before I piched it up. The question, Every sportster I've seen since comes with a little scoop under the air cleaner. I think it looks cool. I want the scoop. But I have the Screaming eagle air filter and the backing plate seems smaller so air enters the filter from all sides. I got a scoop air filter housing off ebay. If I put the SE filter in the scoop housing will I loose efficiancy. It runs like a scalded dog now and performance is more important to me but I do like the look of that intake scoop. Any advice?
I think you may find that the "scoop" on the cover might restrict air flow to the carb which negates the purpose of "opening up" the intake created by the Screaming Eagle AC. My guess is with the rejet you had done that you might experience blow-backs and coughing through the carb, along with decreased performance and increased gas consumption...
I also like the look of the stock a/c better than the screamin eagle. That scoop is made into the backplate. If you put the stock backplate back on the bike, it will pretty much be a stock a/c. Additionally, the screamin eagle backplate usually solves a common problem with blowby oil leaks on the Sportsters. Like I said, I prefer the stock look, but my little Pig runs like she's got a fire in her *** now. And I was having major problems with the blowby oil issue. So far, the screamin eagle has fixed that problem. Need to get a few more miles before I declare that a total success.
That's what I was afraid y'all would say. Screaming Eagle stays, cool looking scoopy thing goes back on ebay. The lesson learned, ask the question before spending the money.
