They will look great and will help when you are on longer rides. I'd suggest you install them yourself. The engine guard will take about 10 minutes and the highway pegs the same. If you aren't in a hurry, you could get them from M&M Cycles and have them shipped to you. It might save some money over the dealer prices. Don't sweat the installation of most of the HD add ons. They usually come with pretty good instructions and we are here to help out if you get in a jam.

The dealer will charge you 1 hour labor to install the engine guard ($70).

If you want peace of mind in the fact that someday you might tip your bike over, engine guards should help you in that area. Foot pegs will give you another way to stretch your legs when on long runs. Both are practical items to have on a bike, but I feel that the looks of the mods would be up to the individual. Good luck

I have a white 2005 XL1200C. I saw my exact bike last night with engine guards on it. Now, I have to have them. I think they looked great! Go for it!

Engine guards with highway pegs on them will extend your riding times, as you will get less fatigued, and be more comfortable.

As far as looks go, that is a matter or personal taste, but sometimes function outweighs form. These items are fuctional, and aid in the pratical use of your bike, as does a windshield.

Listen to Oldgeezer on this, and do the installation yourself. It's not rocket science, and you will develop a better bond with your ride the more work you do yourself.

Regards,

Bill

have an 05 1200C - have engine guards and footpegs on her. Engine guards have been a saver the few times we have laid down (and it wasn't for a nap either) - the guards sort of took the brunt of the fall and avoided damaging other parts. In my profile, the photo of mine shows, if I remember correctly, the guards on there. The footpegs I haven't really been comfortable using yet since I have been doing more in city riding and the back roads with alot of curves and twisties...I feel I don't have enough response time, but I am sure open road is great with them.

I actually installed the guards and the pegs myself - took about 10 minutes for the guards and about 20 minutes for the pegs (I didn't have all the right tools for that one). So I am fully confident you can do it and not have to take her in.
