Angry question about paint

first things first, i have worked with paint and bodywork my entire adult life, so i have some experience with paint problems. can anyone tell me why harley would not warranty a tank bought from a local dealer and painted at the factory, for a defect that the repair shop has seen and knows is there but the regional manager for harley says tough. it is your problem now. btw my tank has a palm print in it from the factory, just in front of the gas cap.

I would love to see a picture of this, as I don't see how that would pass a QC at the factory. Or make it to a dealer without them fixing the issue by having Harley send them a new tank when the bike came to the dealership in the first place. And if they all missed it how as a buyer of the motorcycle did you miss it before you took it home? Troll much

I had to do a walk around and sign off on mine. We talked about many things...including the paint. If you signed off on that I don't see a warranty resolution. Now, if the finish failed in some way, it would be a different story.

Is this a new part from the Genuine Motor Parts and Accessories catalog? Perhaps a Large Capacity Fuel Tank? If so, I would think that it should be covered under the "standard 90 day Parts and Accessories post purchase over-the-counter warranty".

You may have to be the "squeaky wheel"
1 - Get Regional Managar's report stating in writing there is a defect.
2 - Have dealer and repair shop on your side. Notorized statements would not hurt.
3 - Escalate to the regonial's boss.
4 - High quality photo showing that palm print would help.
5 - Small claims court as last step for your refund.

Why denied - I can't offer any comment.

90 day warranty for returns - seems resonable - so why won't dealer take back - did you install and scratch the underside or fill w/ gasoline?

You may even wish to due some due diligence and insure the tank is OEM paint and not repainted by checking the paint mil thickness.

That's weird they aren't warrantying paint unless it's the whole bike. Anywho - I'm sure you know this, but the palm print is probably because the painter wasn't using gloves, touched the tank before paint and didn't wash that spot. Common issue in the paint world.
