Looks like I misread To the OP how long ago did you buy the tank? Why didn't you open it up and inspect it before you left the dealer. Never assume everything is good, always pull it out of the box and check it out! Sounds like you need to go up higher levels until you get a fix!

Since this problem is under the clear coat it is not a matter of warranty, but a defective paint job!
The warranty is there to protect buyer's investment in case the paint job fails during the warranty period (bubbling or cracking etc..), but if the paint job was defective before you bought it, that has nothing to do with warranty. I would take it back and return it under defective product and not through a warranty claim! Warranty expires, being responsible for selling a defective product, never does!

This paint job should have not been sold in the first place. Even if you did not see the problem upon delivery; you can easily prove it came from the factory with a defect, because the thumb print is under the clear coat.

If Colormania had painted your tank, we would gladly repaint it for you even if our standard 5 year warranty had expired!

I noticed some tiny paint defects on my Black sportster replacement tank that was put on after an accident.

I waited a couple months, my buddy kept telling me to complain about it.

I contacted the dealer, they gave me a brand new tank, no questions asked. Even after a couple months of riding with the tank.

Default more info

ok a little more back ground info. i bought the bike new . had a 20 foot long oak tree branch 8 inches in diameter fall on the bike destroyed tank handle bars, speedo...etc . all kinds of good stuff lol. took bike to repair shop i used to work in i trust there work. the tank was a replacement tank bought by the shop from bumpus harley davidson in jackson tn. when tank was delivered a month after order.it was inspected by the dealer and by the shop, i even looked at it before install. here is the sticky part it was cold out bike repaired in december when the tank is kept warm such as being inside you cannot see the hand print, but let the tank get cold and it stands up and you can see and feel it. i found it while detailing bike after i got it out of repair shop in february(does it really take harley 2 months to program a replacement speedo) anyway by the time i found the defect my original 90 day replacement warranty was up. i immediately told the shop and took it back to them to see it ,at least 4 of the shop employees have seen it . they called dealer, dealer said bring it in and let us see it . so i did, the service writer saw it and so did the shop manager. they told me it was out of thier hands that i needed regional parts manager to see it but he would be unable to look at it for 3 weeks. so i scheduled an appointment to be there when he was. i had to leave bike with them because they did not know what time in the day he was coming .i stayed for 4 hours he was no show i left and was gone 2 hours and he showed up , i got a call that said there was no defect and i was stuck with it. side note the temp was in high 60"s that day and the defect layed down enough that unless you knew to look for a hand print you would not see it.lol just my luck. so now i have a problem i look at everytime i crawl in the saddle and it pisses me off.

OK...if you can not replace the tank...for what ever reason....

How about a custom pin stripe - which would hide the hand print.

A pin stripe would not hide the print it is way to large and I am not really crazy about stripes anyway. It just pisses me off that I have spent alot of money and time making my bike nice for me and they won't help with this minor issue.I had been working on a deal to getna blackline while I'm deployed not so sure anymore
