hey everyone i own a 2008 nightster that i just recently ripped apart to "chop it out" i eliminated all wiring to the bars and speedo/indicator lights. except those needed to run the ignition and start. i wired up my key ignition for when the key turns to "on" the ful injector starts automatically and wired a push button start. THE BIKE WILL NOT START NOW. i checked the connections and theyre getting power all the way back to the starter relay i dont know what else to trouble shoot.. could disconnecting anything else to the bars or speedo cause this or cause the computer to not allow the bike to start?
anyone with help i appreciate it!
is the bike in nuetral? lol just kidding. but really though, i parked my bike at the roofing company i used to work for and when i got back to the shop i put my key in and pushed button but would not start. .. somebody had sat on my bike and bumped it down into first... funny now but i tottally thought my effin battery was dead and only had the bike for like a week at that point ahaha! but anyway back to the topic... sorry. i have no idea what it could be but good luck fella!!!!
I know the battery isn't dead because it's been on the tender. Everything but the starter works. I'll try shifting the gears around even hough it's in neutral now. When I did the electrical work I disconnected the battery I don't know why kind of effect that would have on anything..
You eliminated the bar wiring, how did you bypass the "run" switch? You have 2 possibly 3 things going to your bars that affect starting, run switch, start switch and possibly a clutch switch.
well the run switch wire is gray and power to that is white/black, also the start button is black/red with an additional white/black power wire. there is a clutch button but i dont know wether pulling the clutch in presses the button or releases it.
all spark plug wires are hooked up right and the bike is turning over just not starting. i still need to check for spark but i doubt thats the problem....
any thoughts anyone?
@barrygreen: wired the run to the power so when you turn the key the fuel pump starts automatically starts, and wired up a push button start using the black/red and white/black wires. i didnt think the clutch button that the lever hits would effect anything but could be whats baffling me.... ill try it tomorrow
@run1fsr: im thinking the same thing so tomorrow ill check for spark. im pretty much 99% positive its getting fuel. could be bad gas from sitting..? but dont know. still baffled
