Camping gear ??
The important thing to realize is you can get tips from folks that are awesome like the good people in this thread, but ultimately you have to figure out what works for you; there's no definitive camping setup.
I'm in Canada and use a store called Mountain Climbers Equipment Co-op (MEC for short) and I ended up with the same kind of gear they haul up Mount Everest. It's ultra light and compact thanks to compression bags. If you don't know what a compression bag is then you need to find out. The best tent I found and that the climbers use is one called a ***** Hubba. We have a bigger one and I will link a picture from last summer here to show you my set up when I was finished. It included a 4 litre water filtration system, 15 litre sink for washing dishes, stove, pots, pans, plates, knives, forks, spoons, literally everything you could ever need - too much to list here. Even down filled air mattresses and air filled pillows.
The point is - find a store like this, read the tips here and go there to make your own set up. Make sure they have a good return policy so if you find something doesn't work, you can bring it back or exchange it.

A lot of big sales going on right now, good time to buy.
When you find all the gear you need, get one of these sacks (they have different sizes), thrown it in, compress, strap on the bike and go.

I've been an avid camper for years now.. Rarely miss a month. 4x4trips, used to take my ZX6, kayak, backpacking, I can't wait to get my sporty out in the woods. Best advice I can give has already been stated. Research backpacking gear, and check it out in the store. Something that takes up alot of space is food/water. You might want to check out Freeze Dried bag food. (coleman is awesome for alot of things, not fdf.) You'll just need to boil water. 3L camel pack is a good idea. You don't need a silverware set if you have a pocket knife and a spork. Tents, you want to buy one time if you can help it. Most 3 season or better are good tents. Last thing you want is a tent that can't handle wind and steady rain. you are screwed. (Been there) I could probably talk your ear off.
