Non OEM forward controls. P.O. put these on, looks like several years ago. The shifter arm and shaft have stripped (mainly upshifting). Any suggestions on a quick and effective fix.
My F.I.L. currently has my welder or I'd simply weld them together in position so I can continue to ride it until I can pick up the forward controls that I really want on it.
if the shaft is stripped, I think you'll have to replace it either way.
can you put some kind of friction tape, maybe emery cloth or something, in there for the time being?
I've thought about that. It may work.
It's not the shaft that goes into the Transmission. It's the aftermarket forward control shaft. The only reason it has splines is so you can adjust it to your preference. If I had my welder, this would be simple, put it where I want it....zap! and reinstall.

ah good, it'd suck if it was the transmission shaft.
Might be a ton more work, but perhaps you can enlarge the hole in the lever (for a larger bolt), grind into the shaft, maybe that'd lock it up enough for the time being?
same thing happend to my kit, same kit as yours, cci garbage. I used a lot of teflon tape and it worked for a while. Your best bet is to sand down the chrome and tack weld it to the shifter shaft. I have the assembly of the shift shaft and the shifter if your interested. pm me.

Phoned a friend....we're going to weld it on Monday.
Coat the splines with JB Weld and let it cure for 24 hours. It will never slip, or come off again, ever.
I must be one of the few people that hate that stuff. I've just never had the luck with it that others have had. Every time I've used it, even letting it cure days, it breaks within minutes. Will wait and weld it on Monday morning. Also, found the shaft at J&P for $20 if I choose to invest in fixing this, but really think that the $20 will be better spent on a new set of Forward Controls in the future.
