hey there i have just brought a new sportster and are having problems with surging at low speed and sometime on the highway to. I have put new V&H 2 into 2 big radius on, a screaming eagle air cleaner and screaming eagle stage 1 round air cleaner and race tuner on and still have a problem anyone got any suggestions on how to fix this problem so I can have a enjoyable ride????
well when you say low speed, do you also mean low rpms? try downshifting a gear and see if it goes away. The other thing, I see you put pipes and a high flow air cleaner on it. Did you re-tune to compensate for the lean condition?
As inferred above, low speed and low rpm are not how a 1200 wants to run. The only time you should be below 2000 rpm is accelerating in 1st gear. Gradually increase the minimum rpm in each gear. You will be amazed how smooth 5th gear becomes when the rpm is above 3100.
yeap i did re-tune with the screamin eagle race tuner, low speed is anything in first speed right up to the 5th speed, surging around town in anything under the 50kilometer zone, so anything in low slow speed,
or speed's at under 100 k's im not sure bout the rpm in each gear as i dont have a dial to show what im doing, but have tried all the above suggest from you guys, has anyone tried puttin other baffles in the v&h, do you think this would change anything???
Who did the tune on your bike? Was it a dyno tune or just a map download?
I recognize the symptoms you are describing as I had similar issues.
Mine, however, came from a 1200 upgrade to an 2010 883.
What it came down to was the canned map the dealer tossed on the ECM.
Once I had them throw it on the dyno, all issues went away.
The parts guy at Harley told me you should only use the screaming eagle tuner if you are using harley's exhaust. Just a thought are you using the SE race tuner?

That's Harley Dealer salesmanship at it's finest........in other words, it's BS.
I had my sportster tuned with with the SE super tuner (what replaced the old race tuner) with V&H pipes with no issues. You can run most, if not all, exhaust systems with the tuner.
Unless you get shammed into buying the street tuner which basically only allows you to update with canned maps. Then you'd probably need to stick with the Harley exhaust as that's probably all the make maps for.
My customs has been doing it sence it was brand new. I did there 200 dollar re-flash rush slip ons (witch i didn't think would help much but i wanted anyway) so i guess now i need to buy a better air cleaner and do a dino to make it run like it should have when i bought it. go harley!
