Question Stock Shock Adjustment

Just started riding two-up this weekend. Obviously the bike sits lower than it did with just me on it. Are the stock shocks on the 2012 Iron adjustable at all (to make them firmer) or should I look into buying some new ones? Service manual is at home and I'm at work so I can't go to that first.

The preload is adjustable on the stock shocks. It can be done with a tool specifically made for it, or a pair of channel locks.

Thanks Jeff. I did some more digging through the forums. Looks like I'll be buying a spanner wrench.

Yes, it's called a spanner wrench. it's cheap, I never understood why one doesn't come with the bike to begin with

Your bike probably is sitting on factory setting (middle setting) as was mine. I'm about 170 - 175 lbs & stock setting is fine except a little bottoming over harsh bumps at speed. You'll wanna go at least one setting firmer at first for 2 up. I think there's only one more after that, but it will make a noticeable difference.

I adjusted my by changing the location. I put them in the trash. I'm running progressive, which makes it ride like a different bike. I can also adjust the preload by hand. Wife on, wife off, 1 minute change with on tools.

The stock shocks on my '08 were trash for two-up riding. Bottomed out regularly even with the preload cranked up all the way. Changed over to Progressive, what a difference!
