Haha yeah I guess one couldn't hurt to cover up some scratches. I don't like the look of saddle bags and usually just bunge cord sh@t to the fender. The worst scratches were left by some hot wings I had wrapped in aluminum foil lol.
You know what they say thier are no dumb questions...
They save your fender from rub marks when stapping something on. I use a fish net elastic cargo net to hold several differant items, or just ride around with the net empty but available to use if needed. I'm in the process of ordering the bib myself, kinda got the horse before the cart, opps! I had one on my road king for when I was riding solo, and that application was for looks only cause I had the permanent hard bags. I love the solo look, so the fat two-up seat, backrest, luggage rack, rear rider pegs and learher wrapped saddle bags are on the shelf collecting dust! With the fender bib I also ordered the solo swing-arm bag. Anyway that's my 2 cents worth...and then some, ha-ha. LATER DUDE, " worksucksletsride " OTHERWISE CALL ME sCOTT.

Reason: grammer
If you're going to be strapping down stuff to the rear fender, you could get a fender rack instead of a bib. I got a cheap, chrome rack off Ebay for about $40. Functions well and is a nice compliment to the rest of the chrome on my bike.
Got one that is attached to my Haulin *** backrest. Bought the backrest used and it did not have the rubber that sits between it and the fender. So the bib saves the fender every time I add on the rear seat/backrest for riding 2up
