Default Question about windshields.

I really don't like the look of a windshield especially on a sportster, but everyone who has one says they are great. I was thinking about getting one that clips on and off real easy. I was going to get one for highway riding and take it off for local runs. Do they really make a difference on the highway. I never used a windshield and was just wondering before I decide if I want to get one or not.

Yes they really do make a difference. I dont particularly like the look either but if your glasses blow off you can still ride!

I dint like the look of a full faring on my Iron XL883N. So I made a decision for a small faring. It relay shine on speed over 50mph. Here is a link to my BlackShadow

I don't like the look either, but I commute to work, most of it on the highway. I got a small shield, a National Cycle DX with quick disconnect. It does make a difference on the highway, even at 35mph I can feel a difference. The shield I got isn't a real tall one, so all the wind it takes off is what would normally be hitting me in the chest. It really makes a big difference when it's colder out too.

It comes on and off with just a couple of *****, when it's off, the mounting "rings" stay on the handlebars. I can take it off and on in about 30 seconds.

I was going to attach a pic, but this thread already has pics, better than I would take:

If you do any time on the highway/interstate for extended length, a windshield is a must. Some people will say you don't need them, but if you can afford one, it is worth it. I have the HD quick detach and it is great for cold weather and/or highway riding. Helps keep bugs off your torso area too!

Everything that Edge said, except mine is the National Cycle Deflector. I ride at interstate speeds without any issues. Much less expensive than the HD quick release.
