Default Retention ring

After changing out the sift linkage on the 72 this past weekend I realized I had a part left over! It appears that I have the small brass retention ring (incomplete circle with two small holes) still sitting on the mat. Can someone tell me where this piece fits in to the foot peg assembly? Before anyone suggest it, I have already ordered the service manual but I don't have it in my possession yet.

Thanks in advance.

Travis

I may use some busted terminology, but there is a bolt or pin probably 3/8 in diameter that passes through the mounting piece for the footpeg, and through the female "eye" of the footpeg itself. this pin has a small groove on the end, and the retaining ring slips into this groove, keeping the pin from backing out and your footpeg from falling off.

I think.

+1 That's correct.
Also, the foot peg itself may be attached using a nut and bolt OR a clevis pin that has a "snap ring" on the bottom side. The clevis pin method is the stock setup, but if you changed to aftermarket pegs they may have come with nuts and bolts.

Note white bucket for left overs. Harleys have too many parts anyway
