When I replaced the pegs on my scooter, I replaced the snap rings with a bolt and locking nut. Its worked perfectly and no one has even noticed the difference.
You can purchase replacement snap rings at the autoparts store, but I agree that a chrome button head bolt with an acorn nut and a lockwasher looks best. You can purchase the bolt and acorn nut at your local Andersons hardware if you live in the midwest. If not, you can order them from Fastenal or any other bolt distibutor.
I got a new set of pegs installed on my XL1200L a while ago and they are waytoo loose for my liking. Not 'bounce around' loose, but enough for the passenger pegs to work themselves out from the storage position after a short ride.I've tried bending the washer to tighten things up with no luck.I think I'll try the standard bolt and nut option too. Why on earth did HDadopt the crappy snap-ring setup anyways?!
