So whats it worth?
I looked at an 84 1000 sportster at a yard sale yesterday,34,000 mi new tires and batt fires right up very nice paint just a bit dusty.....he kinda shocked me when he said $4700......I didn,t pay that for my 03..what would be a fair price?...

Found two completed auctions on eBay. Quite a range.
1984 Harley Davidson Sportster XR-1000 31 bids- sold for $10,000
1984 Harley-Davidson Sportster "old ironhead' XLX 1000 16 bids sold for $2400
Seems the "xr" is the hot ticket. Here's an '83 that went for $12k.
KBB full retail price (what a dealer would ask) is around $3,000 - $3100 for all other sportsters of that year.
