What do you all think is the best and safest way to remove gas tank decals. I want to customize my tank with different ones. I looked online and it said about using a heat gun and solvent. Did anyone here try this? If so, how did it turn out?
Dude if those are like mine they are painted on, and your not going to get them off.... nicely with a heat gun. You sure they are stickers like you can find a definitive edge with your nail? Judging by your sig it looks like those are painted. If they are stickers, use a heat gun and start with low heat slowly going up and peeling them off. If you get it to hot you will melt the clear. I use a fresh razor blade, but I do it professionally :]
Edit: remove residue with 2-way adhesive remover, use polish or cleaner wax to buff the tank so it doesn't leave 'tan lines'
there are many diff tank badges... if you have a real badge and not a decal, they are easy to remove (dental floss and wd-40 are my favs for that)- regardless of what you use to remove the badge, the best tip i can give you is to be sure to line up the old badge with masking tape so you can mount the new one where it should go- like this:
you have decals under clearcoat paint.. they can be removed, but you have to sand down the clear, peal them off, sand everything smooth with out cutting into the color, then reclear everything..you should probably let a pro painter do it for you, but it can be done
you could probably cut along the outline with a razorblade, then heat the decals and peal them off, but you will still have to sand everything smooth and reclear

+1000 to this. They are decals under a couple coats of clear.

That is a technique for removing emblems, not decals. Emblems are (I assume) metal and raised, stuck on using double-sided tape. The heatgun is used to soften the adhesive, which is pretty determined stuff! It is not a way for removing decals, as others have explained.
