OEM Cables, turn signal wire extension and break line for $740.00!!! It's no wonder so many people turn to foreign bikes. I'd shop around for those parts if I were you. I know my dealership mechanic told me that he'd do the labor even if I brought the parts in from elsewhere. That may be the same for you, if you don't want to do the wrenching yourself.
980$ including labor and let me explain what he told me :
All parts are to be changed OEM HD
labor is 240$
and 740$ for the parts (excluding the handle bars)
You are obviously missing out the most important part. BJ while you wait. Labor is fair enough but $750 for parts? I changed brake, clutch and throttle for less than $500, IIRC. Check the parts catalog from HD but I don't see how he came up with those numbers.
My bars are being done at the dealer currently. Its costing me about 850-900 for parts and installation. ($257 for bars, risers, and blades. $300 for cables, and 300 to 350 for installation)

That is freaking crazy! 16" Burly Apes and the cable kit - $344. Do it yourself labor - free. Save nearly $600. Pride of doing it yourself - priceless.
That said - I did the dealer route for my first handlebar change. Pissed myself off so bad at the price that I did it myself next time.
what sportster do you have and how tall are the bars? i put 12.5" HD mini apes on my nightster and only needed to buy a brake line with a total cost of Ł55 for the handlebars and Ł30 for the brake line. internally wiring them is a time consuming job but well worth the effort.
I was in the back shop-area of my local dealer last year and there were a bunch of teenager "mechanics" walking around scratching their heads with a shop manual in one hand and a wrench in the other.
I realized very quickly - I can do that.
A bar job isn't that difficult and not worth almost a thousand bucks. (That is the same price my local dealer charges as well.)
IIRC, the turn signal extension is under $50. So what does he provide for the extra $740-500 or $250?
that sounds steep. i got the turn signal relocation kit for $33 from the HD Dealer and it came with the signal "extensions" ... its just wires that you splice in.
i didnt even use the wires... i just pulled them back and just mounted them on the trees... they are long enough, and if i pulled them back further they would probably fit on the lower trees.

Exactly. Had them install the forwards to get the free winter storage the year before last....yeah, went to pick it up and with labor and other charges, my free storage cost more than my beachfront hotel in the islands....they don't get to touch it again as long as I can help it.

I don't follow. My dealership offers a free storage with $1000 of work done. It is pretty clear cut. How did you get a free storage and labor and other charges and you get a shock? Didn't they spell out the charges to you UP FRONT? Didn't you know how much labor and other charges would be before you stored it there?
I tell my service adviser what to do. My first step is to figure out what I want done and the labor time to do it. Next, I talk to the tech who will be working on it. After which, I will be telling, not discussing, telling the service adviser what I want done and how long it should take. At least that is what I do with my cars. The service adviser is a retarded monkey in a business suit. He couldn't find his dick if you unzipped his pants, grabbed it and tied a bow around it.
The only one I have found is good is my MB service adviser who knows better than to quote me a number before talking to the techs since I chewed her out about her colleague telling me a bulb replacement will take an hour when I have done it myself in 5 mins. And she is HOT, BTW.
I got myself a Z bars and i wanted to install them on my sportster
I went to the Stealer and asked him about the cables he said i need 2 throttle cables 1 clutch cable and 1 front break cable and turn signals wire extensions
after his calculations he said it will cost me 980$ to get the 5 pieces installed on my bike
Buy the burly extended wire kit it comes with everything.
