I got myself a Z bars and i wanted to install them on my sportster
I went to the Stealer and asked him about the cables he said i need 2 throttle cables 1 clutch cable and 1 front break cable and turn signals wire extensions

after his calculations he said it will cost me 980$ to get the 5 pieces installed on my bike

Sounds like you need to buy yourself some wrenches. How tall are your bars? Usually Z-bars won't warrant new cables.

It is about a half day's work for someone who has done it before, and any dealer is probably going to charge 5 hours for it. My dealer's labor rate is $80/hr. THAT is why I don't take work to him. If you are even half decent at wrenching, you can buy the cables you need from Burly and install them yourself. They make kits for that specific thing.

+1. Wired internal only took time, patience and a couple new $0.09 pins to replace the ones that didn't survive the pull. I'm ok w the brake cable on mine. Just loosened it enough to twist (like 1/4-1/2 turn w the wrench) then spun it down a couple degrees and tightened it back up.

My Z's are only a 4" rise. Pretty sure you can go up to 8" with all the stock cables.

For my Chubby ones, you had to wire internal and the throttle cables, brake, etc, etc had to be changed. For where I mounted the signal lights, I had to buy a kit and make it work but no extensions.

What is he charging for parts and labor? What cables and hoses is he using? Can you use a set of cheaper stuff or do you want fancy braiding? What is the labor rate? IF it is 5 hrs @ $100 an hour, it isn't out of line. Just throwing a $980 figure isn't helpful.

Internal wiring is a little more difficult and thus takes more time as opposed to external like the bike came with. All hard to say with just a $980 figure thrown out. Can't say what is going in. IS he saying you MUST change the cables, etc or is he saying that "if it comes to that, we will change it and $980 is going to be your max."? When I did mine, they told me exactly what it needed IF I used HD bars since there were some specs. You wander off the reservation and they would quote the max it can get. I would. I wouldn't say $500 and then call you back and say "Oh, BTW, you also need to do this, that and the other to it or it won't work.".

980$ including labor and let me explain what he told me :

All parts are to be changed OEM HD
labor is 240$
and 740$ for the parts (excluding the handle bars)
