Man I run AMSOIL every where I got it from a military dealer. I ordered a case for under $12 a quart shipped. I found him online at http://www.borsliensoil.com
I am very happy with the Formula+...very smooth shifts. But my next change I'll be putting in Amsoil 20W50 to see if there is any difference in the performance. I would probably try Mobile 1 but in Canada I find Amsoil is cheaper.
As already mentioned, we have a plethora of posts on this topic.
There is one thing that is worth attention, though. One of name-brand oils is no good for Sporty generator. Can't recall which one. I know it wasn't Amsoil - I'm using Amsoil myself.

Pretty sure what you are talking about is the Mobile 1 gear oil. It will strip the varnish off the stator killing it. How do I know this because its what happened to mine.

Not sure if I agree but that is the strong point of being tied down to correct fluid for primary and transmission. There is yellow sleeve bearings in the primary and some very small needle bearings in transmission that require very specific oils and you really should not try to engineer here. Do not use EP , HF, auto transmission or such. I am sure if some of these spelity oil guys say theres is OK, I am sure it is. Just be sure they say it. Lot of people swear by auto transmission lub in primary because the clutch looks like an auto transmission clutch but the makers of auto transmission say do not use. The factory stator has baked on insulation that will not be affected by any oil I have heard of. My bike has 40K and we used it for a test bed with auto transmission in primary and 75-90 syn gear oil in tansmission. I could not determine any real problem but it also did nothing to improve clutch fill or transmission clunk (by the way Harley clunk because of the square dogs on the gears and actually is caused somewhat by primary oil, not the transmission itself. The clunk hurts nothing. It's the drive dogs, not the gear teeth clunking anyway.

Yep, that's correct, I can recollect it now. There are lots of folks reporting dead stators after using Mobil 1.
