Hey everybody ... here is the back story ... I bought an older sporty from this old guys a few years ago... my wife then (now ex) didnt ride with me. During our split and divorce she managed to rack up massive amount of debt on my credit cards then destroyed my bike by running over it a few times with her boyfriends 4x4. Because of her I am not able to buy a new one. I am trying to find a way to get another bike and my current wife wants to ride along with me. So I pose this question ... I might have a chance to get a 2009 Nightster. Is it possible to change the seat for 2 up riding without bottoming out or riding unsafe? I am 6' .. 255 and the wife is 5'6"..165 If anybody has experience with the nightster and 2 up riding please comment and let me know how it is.
with that weight you would absolutely want to change out the rear shocks... and add an inch or more to the new ones. and yes a new seat makes sense too- but the rear shocks are the most important mod to start out, imo.
A Nightster is not a good choice! It can be improved to make it more passenger friendly, but that requires quite a bit of additional cost. It has low slung suspension and the space for you and your wife is very restricted. If you were both svelte lightweights it would still be a poor choice!
A better Sporty would be an 883R or 1200R, as they have taller suspension, come with a dual seat standard and also have twin front brakes. Otherwise I agree with previous comments, to chose a big twin, which will be a much better starting point.
It can be done but with that weight I dont think you, the GF or the bike will be happy. Never thought Id say it but Id look into a bigger bike.
+2, Wow your ex sounds crazy, and you got married again tisk tisk LOL! I am devorced and it was not even a bad one and I don't want to get married again, I mean if you hit your head really hard on something you would try to avoide that thing at all cost, but it seems people get burned on devorce and yet they set themselves up for it again. Ok sorry rant over LOL!
