Hey. I'm new to the forum. I was wondering what the best exhaust what be for a 2007 XL 50 sportster. I've heard good things about the vance and hines straightshots and the SE pipes. What is the difference besides price? Would the Vance & Hines void the warranty?
I just bought the V & H ShortShots for the 07 (just came out). I'm also purchasing the SE Air Cleaner. The dealer said I do not need the FuelPak, Race Tuner, etc... but they will need to do a download ($54.00).
It's really going to be a matter of taste... which will have two contributing factors, looks and sound. The SE exhaust will maintain the more traditional look of the bike. From what I hear they are not near as loud as the Vance and Hines pipes... and the new street legal SE pipes are even more quiet. You will also have to decide between a full exhaust system, which replaces everthing currently on the bike, or a slip-on system, which will only replace the fatter part of your exhaust system (the mufflers). The SE pipes are slip-ons. Vance and Hines offers both.
I installed Vance & Hine Shortshots on my bike. They are pretty loud, but after a lots of research, I found them to be the best bang for my buck. Here's a picture of them.
First, welcome. I have the Vance & Hines Straighshot slip-on mufflers for mine and I love them. (approx. $250). If you like the look of the OEM exhaust, I would recommend removing the baffles. Any 04-07 muffler will fit your new bike. If you will be adding other performance options (Stage 1) such as a high flow aircleaner, ECM remap or other fuel controller (Screamin' Eagle Race Tuner or SERT, Screamin' Eagle Race Fueler or SERF, Vance and Hines FuelPak, etc...) then you will want to go with a good slip-on muffler by a company that has tested their product. Some of the straight exhaust will actually cost you performance. Vance and Hines and Screamin' Eagle are the most popular.
Fianlly, welcome to XL50 ownership. I am keeping an XL50 registry and will add your bike to our list.
