About a week ago my bike (2004 XL883) started throwing b1007/1006 codes. I have run through the diagnostics in the book and tried changing out the voltage regulator with no change. When I check the charge at the battery it reads about 15.7v-16.1v and will peak around 17.0v when I roll on the throttle. I charged the battery and it was holding a charge right around 13.0v.
A few days ago it died as soon as I tried to putting in gear and riding and appeared to lose all power. I turned the key off and on and power was back. I have checked both ends of the negative battery cable and they are secure.
I have searched the forums and everything I have seen pretty much goes over what I have already tried. Any help or ideas would be much appreciated.
It sounds as if your regulator is shot. If the new one is also dead there may be a problem in the stator. You need to do a full electrical system test to identify exactly where the problem lies. Voltage at the battery should peak at around 14.6 volts. Your battery sounds about right.
