Default Xied

Alright so I've got a 2007 Nightster with after market slip ons and an opened up air cleaner. Just a simple mode to the back plate and swapped to a k&n filter. Of course I instantly got the surges and pings and misses that go along with it. Well after jumping onto DKs website I see there are three different ones for sportsters. The XiED X14iED and the ViED. Well how the hell do I know which one I should get? The ViED has some small adjustability with it and the XiED delivers a fuel ratio of 13.1 compared to the 14 of the X14iED. So who ran which?

Give them a call. The owner will probably answer the phone and he is very knowlegeable. I had the XEID's on my 2011 dyna and it did make a noticable difference. They are well worth the money but if you want to get your bike to it's best, wait until your done with engine mods and get a quality tuner and either self tune it or have it tuned by the best dyno tuner.

XiED List of Products

What is the best XIED product for my Sportster?

We recommend the X14iED for general use on all Sportsters. This provides the best all around performance.

For Riders that want to experiment with fuel mixtures, the VIED allows a range of fuel mixtures from 14.3 to 13.7:1. This is our recommend alternative to the X14ED. It gives you the chance to try the 14.0:1 and 13.8:1 AFR's, making the final setting based on your riding style.

For Riders with a Bar Hopper riding style (in town), the XiED can be used. Its slightly richer fuel mixture than the X14iED is well suited for in-town riding, but not high RPM, high speed riding.
Contrary to popular belief, richer is not alway better, only richer. For normal cruising in closed loop, there is a diminishing return as the fuel ratio gets richer than 14.2:1. The X14iED is set at 14.0:1 which as proven to be an excellent all around fuel mixture, especially when taking into account the adaptive nature of the HD Delphi ECM.

Hmmm maybe thats why I can get such good mileage on my VIEDs. Really dont know what the AFR is but I have them cranked to almost 3/4. I get low to mid 40s in town, 49-50 on the hwy with my best of 53.

Just my 0.02 cents...
Just bought a Nightster 2007, 16000km. Did not know to much the history of the bike, but it had already some S E slip ons... But no air filter except from the stock one. So decided to go for a S E air filter, so yah, kind of did the stage 1 thing... Could have bought another company like S&S or Zipper... But it is my first HD... Anyway, it is done. I did not even bother to do trying it before installing X14ied from Nightrider. Did know wich one to buy... So i gave them a call. Superbe service. On the forum i had read a lot on that simple mod. I know it is not an Autotune neither a dyno tune but just did not have the $$ for more. Family comes first in my head. But let me tell you this... I did the mods this afternoon and tried my Palomino... Wow! It made all the difference in the world. Period. Power, sound, response. Wow! My bike used to pop a lot while decelerating. Not anymore. I did not have HD flash my ECM. From what i have read and from Nightrider, it was not necessary. Finally, for 100$, it is a mod that is hard to beat for the price. Well, That's about it. Hope it helps somebody.

A slight update to the above info I posted back in June-

The 2012 & 2013 Sportsters , especially the 883, seem to do a bit better with the XIED's.

HD has changed the fuel maps due to emissions regulations. This has resulted in the 2012-2013 sportsters really liking the extra 2% fuel the XIED provides over the X14iED.

Not that any of the 2012-2013's will run bad with the X14's, they just respond better to the slightly richer XiED's.

I have a 2007 Sportster 1200 Custom and installed the V&H Q-series Long Shots and a V&H O2 Naked air cleaner. I installed the X14iEDs and they work great with my bike. When I talked to Nightrider the X14iED was the one they recommended for my bike.
