I posted recently about changing the cams on my 2009 nightster.
while changing i found the rear exhaust was one tooth out from the factory! would this have caused the hot rear cylinder i had? it seems to be running smoother and cooler with a higher lift cam?
may be coincidence but i would appreciate your views.
It can happen. These engines are assembled by a different person at each stage of assembly and two work shifts. So it could have been a new person who isn't quite up to speed yet and it got slapped in to move onto the next.
This isn't he first time I've seen this and other similar things from the MoCo and I've got 8 years dealership mechanic experience on the books and 10 more self employed. I only mention this to show that I've seen this stuff on bikes brand new and they come in with issues here and there caught at set up and road testing stages.
Yes it should be running cooler with aftermarket cams, since the stock (EPA) cams are quick open, quick to close style cams with very little duration.
