Default Voltage Regulator Recall

Well my voltage regulator finally s**t the bed today and luckily I wasn't far from home. I managed to get a jump from a fellow rider and got 3 miles down the road just before my house when it died again.

The dealership doesn't have any in stock. They are closed Monday's and on the 4th and it will more than likely be Thursday at the earliest before I get my ride back.

Harley needs to get off their asses and get these parts to the dealers. I shouldn't have to go almost a week for a factory defect.

Needless to say I'm fuming!

Lets hope this didn't mess up your stator too! I went on a ride 3 weeks ago and one of the guys had a brand new Heritage and the voltage regulator went out before the trip and got repaired and then on the trip his stator went. I would have them check it out to make sure everything will be working fine after the repair.

I'll definitely make sure they do that. Thanks for the tip.

Did you receive a recall letter from HD?
Are there any symptoms which hint for it coming into fail soon?

No recall letter. Register your VIN on Harley's website and look in the recall information and you'll see this which indicates your bike has one of the faulty Voltage Regulators:

Product Notice: 0912: PRD PGM:2012 REGULATORS

The symptoms you will see are an intermittent Check Engine Light and Battery Light.

Mine did this for about 2 weeks before it finally failed completely.

Yep. Fsck!
It shows, but not as a "recall". It shows as "Product Program", which I guess is a lower shame name WRT recall.
I need to check with the stealer, and ask why I was not contacted for that ...

I don't think they are contacting anyone on these. And from what others have said Harley doesn't issue Recall's for any item that is not safety related.
It shows mine as a "Product Program" as well.

Get your bike in and get it fixed as soon as you possibly can before it fails on you. I'm hot that it took my bike to fail before they made it a priority.

Got a surprise phone call. Bike is fixed and running like a champ. No apparent problems with the stator (crossing fingers).

However, they did remove my Throttlemate and I have to wait till Tuesday to figure out what they did with it. Not a big deal as it's only a $20 part but there should have been no need for them to remove it.

Now if this heat would die down I could take a semi-comfortable ride.

Glad to hear it's fixed!

I still think it's crap policy not sending the owner a letter.
Getting stranded in the middle of nowhere is no fun, especially when that can jeopardize a trip you planned for the whole year.
