Default So I'm trying to buy a Harley...

So I'm trying to buy a Harley...

Hey folks I'm new to the forum, and wanted to officially say hello.
I've had my MC license for a long time but it's been nearly ten years since I've had a bike of my own. (and my previous bikes were all crotch rockets back in my younger days)

I've always loved Harley's from a distance. Now I'm trying to remove the distance and buy my first.

I'm going with a sportster for several reasons.

1) They are really cool.
2) I'm a small guy and after being away from bikes for so long I don't think I want a huge/heavy beast
3) I've got a very limited budget.
4) I like all the cool little customizations I've seen. It's like a little hot rod community.

There are three sellers with bikes that may fit the bill, but none of them are being terribly responsive. (and the only one close to me geographically "may" have sold it)

Meanwhile... I need to strike fast here before the wife comes to her senses and/or spends my limited budget on something more "practical" ... Also I'm in Indiana so the riding season is burning up fast.

So while it's getting frustrating this forum has helped me get my fix and stay positive. Thanks.

Look forward to getting to know you. I'll update the thread if/when I get a bike.

Good luck on a bike buy! Sporty's are great little machines. That's what's cool about the Harley community. You can basically customize every piece on the bikes. Unfortunately, it seems like the majority go for the same look because it is "in," but that's their choice.

Better pick one up quick. We all know how much more important a piece of jewelry may be to a Wif real soon.... haha

Quickly hide the money or take it out of the bank before she gets any ideas

well in the end it will boild down to which one I can afford.
I'm TRYING to afford one 2006 or later so that really narrows the universe of possibilties.
As for specifics or the mods/options ... not as important to me as getting a solid bike. (I can take my time personlzing it.)

Yours is pretty awesome there!

Though I think if it were me I'd have put the G.I. Joe logo (form the old school cartoon) on the tank.
No... I am NOT kidding.
What?
Why is everyone looking at me like that?

If you're willing to go back as far as '06, you might as well consider an '05. They both have carburetors vs. '07 and up with fuel injection. The '05 and '06 are identical, afaik. About the only difference before that is a different size rear axle on the '04. Everything else is pretty much the same.
Cartoons aren't old school GI Joe. The Adventure Team logo is:
