Hey guys and gals! My 03
Sportster makes a good
clunk throwing it into first gear. Well, I should say louder than usual. I guess my question is what's a normal clunk and what's a louder than normal. The bike has less than 6000 miles. Thanks a bunch!
I swear someone makes a post about this every week.
It depends on how and why you are going into first. If your at a stop with no brake it goes nice and easy. Apply brake and it goes harder. Downshifting to first depends on speed. Go from 5 it's easy. 10 it's harder, and so on. That's the best explanation I think I can give you without getting out a decibel meter to measure the sound haha.
In short don't worry about it, as long as it's going into first, let it 'clunk'
I think every bike I've ever owned went clunk in the gears occasionally, it's normal as others have said
What's real fun is being on a Ducati going from 6th to 5th and hearing it go grrrrriiiiinnnnnndddd while the shifter ratchets up and down at illegal speeds
Sometime I wanna clunk my girlfriend, whats about a good sound of clunk your usually hit a women at?
That depends on what POSITION you're riding her. What does her Tach read? If she goes uhhhhh, I think a clunk is ok but if you hear ohhhh, you might need to back off the tach before shifting gears.
I used something similar to this in my WRX so that I could shift into first gear no matter what speed I was it. It's like a engineered oil cocktail and it works really ****ing good.
