I recently (well few months back) bought a wrecked 2003 883c. The title was not salvaged and had little damage, mainly cosmetic stuff which is all fixed and the bike is back to the point where you cant tell it was laid over. I had it repainted to flat black. Other then that its all stock. Now I want to bobber it. There are A few things I havent quite figured out yet. I am wanting to get some new handle bars, I have seen some what I believe is springer style handle bars, and am wanting to go something different then ape hanger, as I like the lower wider look. The thing I need to figure out is, I assume I am going to need to replace some cables and lines such as brake line, cable, clutch cable, and I am not sure about the wiring. How do i tell what lengths of all this to get? any suggestions on where to buy the handlebars, and cables with price in mind? I am trying to keep this project bike minimal, thus why I bought a wrecked one. Also when it comes time to chop the rear fender, what are some ideas as what to do with the tail light. If there are any good sportster bobber guides around you know of Id appreciate it, as I havent came up with any good ones yet.
There are no guides for a bobber. You just bob it. That's all.
As for "springer bars", what you're looking at is an entire springer front end, which won't be particularly cheap. For handlebars that are low, you'll probably want some drag bars. Most can be installed without changing the stock cables.
For the rear fender, you can chop it and use your existing turn signals as run/brake/turn lights with the HD module.
Ya i have different ideas then alot of the bobbers I see, just didnt know if there was some guides on chopping frame ect so i make sure I dont chop something I shouldnt or techniqes to cutting the fender to read before I ruin the one i got. Ty for the info on the springer stuff, that clears that up. Ive got drag bars on it now just want something a tad wider to keep my long arms extended out more. The blinkers are currently off the bike but I do have them, whats the HD module you speak of? is that something to buy sperate and install to make the blinkers serve dual purpose?
Cool I do have access to a grinder. Any suggestions on what a price effect way to lower would be shock wise? Most of the shorter shocks i see around are 200$+. And I am tring to avoid making it a hardtail, but it may have to happen. these 12.5in shocks I have now arent going to work for me.
Edit - Take that back, i do see some lowering sets on ebay for under 100$. What lengths do you guys run? the ones I see are 11inches.
