Hello everyone
Today for some crazy reason my rear brake went out on me, I bled the rear brake and it was back to normal. I have a 2007 883 XL, I was wondering if this is a normal thing to expect. By the way, I checked the lines for leaks an the booster is workin fine cause it pumps just fine. Any input would be greatly apreciated, thanks.
When you write "went out" you, mean no pressure at the pedal....I'd say you have a leak if no work was recently done to the brake system.
Caliper piston seals, master cylinder, sealing washers at lines ends, hole/crack in lines.
Remove the caliper and inspect the piston area. Then flush the system to rule out any blockage issue and test the pressure over night to make sure there is no leakage.
Were you in stop and go traffic? Were you using the brake frequently? Brake fluid is hydroscopic meaning it absorbs water. Once heated it turns to steam which cools and leaves air in the system. If that's the case it may just need a full flush. Especially if it's been a while.
you didnt say mileage....but my first guess is that the pads are shot....when they wear out it is very sudden....not like a car...you will see some pad left because they wont go down to the metal backing plate....just a guess though
