hey guys, so my dad just bought his first harley!!! an 06 883 low. but we have a problem. its WAY to quite, now it would be simple yea just remove the baffles form the exhaust except it doesnt have a factory exhaust it has the catalyst slip ons... http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/g...bmLocale=en_US
there is the link to them, the are a tappered balony cut, so it looks like the baffles wont fit out the end of them. is it possible to get them out or is the hole too small? i tried to find anything i could on these specific muffles on if anyone has removed them and cant find anything. any help would be great cause it sounds like a honda shadow rite now, which suchs cause its a get a big sucker kit and everything on it too. thanks guys!
You may be able to just knock the plug out, it's in the center of the pipe's diameter, near the end of the muffler and redirects the exhaust into the baffled area. At least that's how it was on my stock mufflers. Removing that plug will let exhaust straight through, it will be a little louder, you will lose some back pressure and will probably feel less power in the low/mid range. You might have to remove the mufflers and get them out from the other end, lots of guys just knock them out with a metal round bar.
The alternative is to buy some different slip on mufflers, if you are after better sound, they would probably sound better. You could get a few bucks selling the slip ons you have. Since you have an '06... I just put on this Cycle Shack exhaust:
I'm going by ONE video I saw on youtube. So forgive me if I'm totally wrong here. But the stock pipes on the iron (I know these are different pipes altogether) have baffles that are not "removable". They had to drill them out. This isn't the exact video I saw originally... but it shows what I'm talking about.
we may end up just going in there with a sawzall and cutting the edges of the baffle to get it out, or taking the center of the baffle out like edgeofinsanity stated above. i dont think he is gonna go to the extent of buying new mufflers if thats the only option. im just curious as to if they will fit out the end if the three tac welds holding them in are cut... but i dont want to bust up the end of the mufflers if they wont.
If it's a straight cut muffler you can use a hole saw but with a slash cut i think the Dremel way shown above will be best...I took them out of my 05 and it sounded a lot better....
