Is there an inexpensive or "free" way to get just a little more sound out of stock headers and mufflers on a 2011 EG Classic? My previous bike was an '04 sporty with Screming Eagle slip ons, I liked the sound for around town and showing off, but not when traveling long distance. I like the quietness of the stock eglide exhaust, just wish it had a little more "punch!"
drilling the pipes gets you "random" results- and can cause random performance results
Lots of guys drill their pipes, most are quickly on the way to buying something that gives a better results...
drilling can stress the header joints if you let a gorilla loose on the stuff, and having a bunch of metal shavings rattling around inside the pipes is not a great idea- pipes can suck in, as well as blow out.
many riders of 2010+ (and 2009 Catted models, CA and Int'l), are satisfied with the sound of the stock pipes, once the cat is removed from the header. ( these model mufflers are more "open" then earlier mufflers made for the non-cat models)
There are photo tutorials posted on removing the catalytic convertor, just search.
some of us use tunable pipes such as the supertrapp supermegs- they also make the screaming eagle fatshots and nightsticks- sometimes you can find these cheep.
these pipes use a disk tuning system and can be about as loud or as quiet as the rider wants- in minutes.
the key to money-saving is making the correct choice the first time.
