Default What sounds like a serious problem

I was riding home last night with my ear plugs in when I heard this dry metal rubbing noise coming from my engine. Unlike the normal valve chatter that I hear all the time, this one sounded like the valves had gone dry and were just waiting to seize up. I have not checked the oil yet, it was really late when I got home last night, but plan on doing so today when I get home.

I really hoping someone knows what this noise is. I need to take it by the dealer, am a little hesitant to ride it there, if it seizes shouldn't it covered under warranty since the dealer did the service, I use synthetic oil.

The oil level should always be checked when it's hot/warm. You should have taken 2 minutes to do that last night.

I suggest you have it towed to the dealer, but if the oil level is low, fill it until it's at or slightly above the Low mark on the dipstick. If you ran the bike out of oil and take it in that way, your warranty isn't likely to cover it.

Did your oil light go on? Oil on the ground or engine? Something get loose on your bike, maybe tank bolts? Loose tank bolts made a scary noise, but harmless.

Pretty hard to diagnose at this point.

The oil light did not go on, it is garage kept and no oil stains on the floor, I did a tank lift and used locktite to secure the bolts. I did call the dealer and they told me to ride it in to them tomorrow morning to check it out.

cHarley, I will check the oil level when I get it into my dealership tomorrow morning. We stock synthetic oil and I can add some if it is needed.
